Very good read for new smith's. I really think this book was put together very well. The pictures and text work together to make sure that you are following the authors train of thought. He sets it up in a different manner than most smith's who write books. Leading me to believe that he has been in the trade long enough to know how to teach it. I am not a beginner but I felt like I walked away from reading this with more knowledge than I began. I feel this would be a good primer before jumping into Mr Asperys course books.A beautiful book A very good book for the beginning Blacksmith. Beautiful color photos throughout the entire book showing step-by-step procedures. The colors of the hot steel can be seen at each stage of forging. Many projects, techniques to get a novice started. I have this book and others, My forge is almost made and I have Grandpa's 100 yr.-old anvil. All I need is to find a supplier for coal or charcoal and I'm ready to go!The first purchase for any beginner blacksmith! I really enjoyed this book! It is a well written book by an experienced blacksmith. The photographs throughout the book are almost as good as the actual content. I am a beginner blacksmith and this was the first thing I purchased when I decided I wanted to start smithing. I think it was the perfect first purchase, because it thoroughly lays out exactly what tools are needed. As I stated before, it is beautifully illustrated and the book flows well. The projects listed are complete and easy to comprehend (the actual work is not so easy lol). I find myself constantly returning to it as a reference. If you are interested in blacksmithing I highly recommend this book as your first purchase.
